Welcome to the Otaku Teahouse

This is the Otaku Teahouse. It's a webcomic based on anime conventions, and the geek culture that surrounds it. The main characters are Phoenix and Ian, two frends who travel around to different conventions and follows the events that happen to them. With them are Amber and Marcus, a girlfriend and boyfriend who often room with Phoenix and Ian. Amber is a huge anime fangirl and an avid hater of Twilight, while Marcus is just dragged around to the conventions with her and has no real interest in the culture (but is often forced to admit the fun of it all). There's no real posting schedule, at least for now, but usually once a week at least.

What's going on, where's Phoenix?

I thought I'd take a moment and let you guys know what's been going on in my life, and more importantly, why I haven't updated a comic in several weeks. Well, just when I was getting in the groove of posting a comic every weekend, things have come up.

I'm starting college here next month and have been studying for the accuplacer test. It won't be hard, but for someone with my high school grades (ie: bad), it's a bit complicated if I want the right classes. I guess you coud say I'm being rushed into this, since school starts just next month, so I'm a little on edge. I'll be getting an associates in radio/television/film, hopefully, with my ultimate goal of either making my own movies, or getting a job at Funimation (since they're in town here in the north Texas area), or both... both might be nice. :)

On top of that, I've been needing to go to both the doctors and the dentist, as well as spending a small fortune getting my car fixed this past week. All of this in between my full time job. So, I guess you could say things have been a little hectic.

On the subject of the comic, don't worry, I'm still in the game. I'll be starting up at the beginning of the year, getting several comics done over the break so that I can get on a real posting schedule. Also, over the break, I'll occasionally be posting random drawings of the Otaku Teahouse sort on my deviantart, so keep an eye on that as well.

Zombies, Assassins, and Dragons... oh my...

I don't understand why these game companies all released their big titles within a few weeks of each other, I just don't have the money. :(
First there was Dragon Age, a game that I cannot stop praising, and then Modern Warfare 2 just the week after. So now I'm playing Dragon Age while trying to play multiplayer MW2 (and it's absolutely amazing and enthralling campaign) at the same time. And now, both Left 4 Dead 2 and Assassin's Creed 2 came out on the same day. I'm gonna have to wait a while on those, sadly.

So many games, so little time.... Oh great, the FMA movie just hit bluray, now I need to watch that. :D

On a side note, I will be at the Texas Renaissance Faire this weekend if anyone wants to say hey.

Dallas Webcomics Expo recap...

I got back from the Dallas Webcomics Expo today, and it was awesome. I went to a few panels and got some pretty sweet swag. But most importantly, I got to talk with people who actually know what they're doing, as opposed to little old me.

One of the first people I talked to was Randal Milholland of Something*Positive fame. I met him previously at AnimeFest here in Dallas and wanted to show him my progress on the Otaku Teahouse. Other great artists (that are way better than me) that I met included the guys from Cartridge and the crazy awesome ladies of But Not Really.

But the ones who most impressed me were two young artists who both had comics done in a manga style (perhaps it's a biased taste coming from me, but hey). Hannah Scott makes a comic called After Lily, about a serial killer, a suicidal dude and a mute hobo... oh, and they're all dead. Yes, you heard right. The other awesome chick is Brandi Buckingham who makes Mortifer right here on smackjeeves, and has made quite a name of herself with the popularity of Mortifer.

These people certainly impressed me, but after that con-like experience, I'm craving a real anime con to go to. Sadly, next week is YuleCon here in Dallas and I'm going to be in Houston for the Texas Renaissance Festival at the time. :(

Dallas Webcomics Expo...

Well damn, I didn't know we had a webcomics expo here in Dallas. The Dallas Webcomics Expo is something I just found out about today, and luckily, it's this Saturday! This should be great. If I had known about it earlier, I would have possibly gotten a table..... Oh who am I kidding, I just started out, I have nothing to present. :(

I will however be going this Saturday to pick up a few tips and show off what I have to the pros, see what they think. If anyone is in the Dallas/Forth Worth area, come by and join the fun, and say hi to me. I may not have a table, but I will be there. I'll be wearing my black leather hat ala my previous comic. Hope to see you guys there!

Dragon Age and nukes, oh my...

Dragon Age Origins could quite possibly be my dream fantasy rpg, it's that good. I pretty much bought it with no expectations, and damn, was I impressed. Not only are there six unique opening missions/quests/storyline, but those backstories still affect you as the game progresses. Believe the hype when they say that every choice you make affects the storyline, it rally does. This isn't a cut and dry, light side or dark side choices either, these are the kind of decisions that can change the way some party members see you, sometimes they can leave or not even join you in the first place. But then again, there's the gay elf.

In other news, in Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer, if you get a kill streak of 25, you can summon a tactical nuke... which ends the game... so yeah. ._.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween everyone! Normally I'd post a comic of the group dressed in costume, but I think my art needs a little work before that. :(

Don't worry though, there will plenty of excuses to put Phoenix, Ian, and the others in cosplay soon enough. After all, does anyone really need an excuse to cosplay?
(EDIT) Never mind, just posted them in costume, cause I thought it would be fun. :)

In other Halloween news, kids, if your Fun Dips given to you by that creepy neighbor smells like iocane powder, don't eat it...oh...wait...
